My great, great Grandfather was wounded at Fredericksburg and taken to the 'hospital' at Guinea Station where he died from disease sustained by those wounds on December 27, 1862. He was from Watauga Co and left a widow and 3 small children, including my great Grandmother who was 3 years old at the time. I always think of the line 'No greater love....' and I will always appreciate and pray for him and all those who fought and died for what they believed in. God bless them and let them rest peacefully.

Larkin Gaston enlisted as a private at Gaston County in 1861, and served until the end of the civil war. At wars end he had been made a commissary sergeant. Larkin had been a school teacher prior to his enlistment, enlisted while in his late forties.

Given the dates of his enlistment and his return from the war, I suspect he took part in every action in which H company/37th Infantry had participated.

James A Stowe - Private
Enlisted in Company H, 37th North Carolina Infantry on October 6, 1861, Gaston County. Originally thought to be killed in action in The Battle At Hanover Courthouse, May 27,1862. However, new evidence may prove that he was wounded in that engagement, transported to Richmond hospital, where he subsequently died. A grave marker at Hollywood Cemetery names a STOWE buried, but with no first name only that he was a North Carolina soldier. I am attempting to prove that this gravesite contains James Stowe's remains (for through the process of elimination, I have narrowed the chances of this being the case from 1-156 to 1-3. Will continue investigation.
