Company G
Samuel Pate Hampton - Private
My great-grandfather enlisted in the Union Army at Patterson, MO, September 09, 1864, and assigned to Company G. 47th Regiment, Infantry Volunteers Missouri. He was mustered
in on November 26, 1864, At Pilot Knob, MO Where he
participated in the Battle of Pilot Knob. He mustered out on March 29, 1865 at Benton Barracks, MO.

β€œI feel that He also served in a unit of the Missouri State Militia, before serving in Company G, 47th Regiment, Missouri Infantry. He as much admits this in an August 10, 1895 Pension Affidavit. The governor of Missouri required men to serve [in the State Militia] before being authorized at the federal level. The injured soldiers were denied support by the U.S. Government.”
β€œHe joined some Organization Called Mo. State Militia, in 1863, but he got badly hurt before he rendered any service, and was exempted from further service in that organization; that all the papers in regard to that organization got burnt; therefore, he is unable to remember the name of Company or Regiment.”

Born 23 Mar 1845, died 6 Jul 1923. He is buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hunter, near Ellsinore, Carter Co, MO.

Company I
Marion A Tinker - Private
On August 12, 1864 at the ripe old age of 18, Marion joined the Union Army at Fredricktown, Mo. To serve with Captain Bradly in I company of the 47th Regiment Infantry Volunteers.

Mustering in at Pilot Knob, Mo. he was just in time to fight in the battle of Ft. Davidson.

At wars end he and a small group of Volunteers walked three days home back to Shannon County, wearing out there shoes in the process. This little tidbit of information was related to me as a small child by my parents and it has stuck with me all my life.
