My 3rd cousin Elbert Hansard (1844-1895)fought for Southern independence and after the war he became a medical doctor. He practiced medicine in Pierce City, Missouri, for over 20 years. He and his wife Addie Margaret Dickinson are both buried in Pierce City, Missouri.

John Pope Love - Captain |
He enlisted in the Missouri State Guard in June 1861, and the Confederate Army in July 1862 at Crawford Co., Arkansas, for the duration of the war. He was commissioned a First Lieutenant on 31st Aug. 1862, but signed muster rolls as 'Commanding Company'. He was mentioned as a Confederate Captain in Vol. 22, p. 405 of the Missouri Historical Review. He surrendered with the Army of the Trans-Mississippi and signed the parole of honor on June 8, 1865 dated at Shreveport, Louisiana.

He was wounded in the 'Battle of Lone Jack ' Missouri, and later returned to Henry County Missouri where he was appointed to Judge 'Bush'. James was born 25 Aug. 1842 He has 7 cards in his archival file. He enlisted in Pineville, Missouri 23 June 1862 in Co G 16th Missouri Infantry [Jackman's], enlisted by Capt. Stemmons for 3 years or the war. On 15 Jan 1864 he is promoted to 3rd Corporal. Battles: Lone Jack, Prairie Grove, Helena aka Graveyard Hill, encamped at Arkadelphia, Ark. where they lost 100 men to disease. Pleasant Hill and Jenkin's Ferry. Surrendered at New Orleans La. and paroled at Shreveport, La. 8 June 1865. He was the husband of my 4th cousin 3 x removed.

My 3rd great grandfather James A. Mitchell enlisted on July 20, 1862 in Vanburen, Ark. He was captured at the battle of Pleasant Hill on April 9, 1864 and was sent to prison (haven't found where yet). On June 23, 1865 he signed an Oath of Allegiance in St. Louis, MO. I have copies of his company muster rolls, roll of prisoners of war, and oath of allegiance.
