John Halstead Rosa was the son of Esek Hartshorn and Juliette (nee Halstead) Rosa, born 11 Feb 1843 in Painesville, Lake County, Ohio. According to the 1890 Veterans' schedule, John Rosa of Blanco County, Texas served with the Company B, 1st Missouri Cavalry; he enlisted 1 Sep 1861 and was discharged 26 Jan 1863. His pension application was filed 2 Jul 1916 in Texas. He is buried at the San Antonio National Cemetery in Bexar County, Texas, Plot: J 0 203.

Mustered in September 6, 1861 at Jefferson Barracks (St. Louis). MO. Medically discharged August 17, 1864 at New Madrid, MO. Served as a pvt. his entire enlistment. He was age 52 when he first enlisted (iron men and wooden ships I guess). He died in 1876 and is buried in Marshall IL.
