Thomas J. Jaudon, b. March 8,1949 DeSoto County, MS enlisted in the First Regiment MS Light Artillery on August 27,1864. He was discharged on April 26,1865. He was listed as an 'inmate'(soldier) at Beauvoir Soldier's Home, as a widower from March 24,1916 until his death at Beauvoir on Feb 20,1927. He was buried on Feb 21,1927 in Section B, Row 4, Grave #158 under the name of Thomas J. Jordan. (resources are Beauvoir Soldier's Home Records, and MS Confederacy Grave Records).

John was born 18 July 1820 in Holly Springs, Guilford Co. NC. He has 9 cards in his archival file. He enlisted 1 May 1861 in Capt. Pruit's Co. He was captured 8 Aug 1863 near Guntown in Tishomingo Co. Miss. while on a scouting mission. He was sent to Alton, Illinois and later moved to Camp Delaware where he was released after swallowing the yellow dog. He was very sick and while he made it home, he died within the week of pneumonia. He died in 1865. He is buried at the Old Coralville Cem. at Frankstown, Prentiss County, Miss. He was the maternal grandfather of the wife of my 1st cousin 3 x removed.

Enlisted 10 October 1862 at Hopkinsville, KY. Went to Port Hudson, LA and was severely wounded in the shoulder and captured 9 July 1863. He was paroled in hospital and rejoined his regiment, though disabled. Detailed for hospital duty. Report of the Medical Board, 8 June 1864, states: 'Gunshot wound fracturing right clavicle, disabling his right shoulder. The apex of right lung affected. . .' Disability was declared permanent.

Appears on a receipt roll for clothing at May Hospital in Augusta, GA dated 17 Oct 1864. Appears on PoW roll as a Private captured by Major General Thomas in Battle of Nashville 15 Dec 1864, transferred to Military Prison in Louisville, KY 20 Dec 1864 and transferred to Camp Douglas in Chicago IL 22 Dec 1864 where he dies 22 Jan 1865 of diarrhea. Originally buried grave number 556 Block 2 City Cemetery in Chicago, IL and reburied Oakwood Cemetery dedicated on 30 May 1895. A bronze plaque contains his name and rank as a Sargent once again.
