Pvt. Jerome Benjamin Vaughan was designated a 'teamster.'

My great-great grandfather; enlisted first in the 20th Mississippi, most of which was captured at Fort Donelson. Served in the 20th and then in Ballentine's Cavalry with his brother Thomas.

My great-great granduncle, served with his brother James in the 20th Mississippi and then, from 1862, in Company A of Ballentine's Cavalry.

Mustered 10 Apr 1862.
Surrendered by Lt. Gen. R Taylor 4 May 1865 at Citronville, Alabama.
Discharged 20 May 1865 at Grenada, Mississippi.

Buried in the Rowland Cemetery on the Loess Bluff south of Charlestown, Mississippi (Tallahatchie County) along with his wife. Take Tallaha Road up the bluff and turn north on a gravel road about 1/4 mile. He is my great great grandfather: my mother's mother's, mother's father. He came from Fonda, New York and had a 1st wife that died before he met the mother of my line. According to family history he detested Nathan Bedford Forrest as Forrest had taken his horse after having his shot out from under him. His service record supports this story. He surrendered at Selma, Alabama at the close of the War, with Forrest.

Served in Co. C, Ballentine's Regiment of Cavalry (aka 2nd Mississippi Partisan Rangers) May 1862 - October 1863. Also served in Blythe's Battalion, Mississippi Cavalry.

Enlisted as a Private on 2 August 1862 at the age of 19.

1842-1897 Enlisted on 24 July 1862 in Grenada.
