Not much details on death of Andrew Todd in the records.
Newton was a skirmish that occurred after one of the battles at Winchester, Va
Wondering if anyone may know burial site of any of the above.
Andrew Todd, of Dalton in Muskegon County Michigan, was 'shot through the breast' and died immediately. This according to his widow's pension records came from the affidavit of Henry Clark, Holver Anderson, and August Lund... well acquainted with Andrew, and privates of the 5th Michigan Cavalry from apparently Muskegon County themselves. They witnessed his burial, but did not mention where it was, nor did any of the records (military or pension) which came from the National Archives. The affidavit indicated (in initially blank spaces) that his death was in the county of 'Fredericke' and state of Virginia, but other records confirm that it was indeed near Newtown (or Newton), which (according to research of my wife... Andrew's descendent) is now Stephens Town. The manager of the 'Old Courthouse Civil War Museum' in nearby Winchester suggested looking into the burials of the National Cemetery, also in Winchester, but his name is not listed among those available on the Web. Had he been hospitalized, things may have been different, but my feeling is that he may have been buried in haste... being after all in 'enemy' territory and probably moving fast.

Hiram Butler Knowlton - Private |

Nineteen year Hiram was working for a father named Rice outside of Allendale, MI when he enlisted Co F. He was with the company until the end of the war. He was wounded once and missed Gettysburg. He was captured twice. The last time he had the measles and was immediately released to avoid infecting the other prisoners. Those prisoners ended up at Andersonville where trooper Adolph Friday died. Hiram's war chest, hat, and pipe (with crossed sabers) can be seen on the Knowlton House museum in Allendale, MI. Hiram would later buy farmer Rice's farm after Rice more or less adopted him. Hiram would carry on and adopt several other children himself. He was my great grand uncle.
