John Grey Chambers - Lt. Colonel

Lt Col John Chambers was adjutant and later commander of the regiment. He was mortally wounded while commanding the regiment at the Battle Drury Bluff in May 1864, and died at Hampton Hospital near Ft Monroe, VA.

Alexander was more seriously wounded in the left arm while engaged in the Union capture of New Bern, N. C., 14 March 1862. The Alexanders lived in Boston where William worked as a carpenter before enlisting with the Union Army.

Brooks, received a wound in the battle of March 14th, and, after a short stay in the hospital at this place, went to his home in Salem, there to linger with his friends but a few days, then expire.
