Jackson and his wife, Sarah Jane Ratliff were the parents of my maternal gr grandmother, Mary Simmons Cox. He served in Latrobe's 3rd Maryland Battery (may have also served in Stephen's Georgia light Artillery. Jackson was paroled at Vicksburg under the name : JACKSON SCIENOUSE. He returned to East Tennessee and after hiding from the Rebels for abt a year he joined Co.F 3rd Tenn Mtd Inf. Union ( listed on this site )and finished the war with the Yankees earning a Federal pension for himself and Sarah after his death in 1904. He also earned the WRATH of his former Confederate neighbors that resulted in much trouble in post-war years.
