His service was annotated as Distinguished. The enlistment date should read Oct 13, 1861 (as opposed to Oct 13, 1862 as he died Oct 2, 1862). He couldn''t have died eleven days before he enlisted. The Adjutant General Report does state he was 25 when he enlisted which would make the year 1861 (he was born Dec 12, 1836). In civilian life, Gustavus was a teacher.

A B Fletcher was a commander of the Amos J Billings Post #112, GAR, located at China Village. [This was a fraternity of Civil War vets-Grand Army of the Republic.]
