William Henry Boyce was Captain Michael Boyce's third child. Captain Michael Boyce served in the 15th ME. Infantry. William Henry Boyce initially enrolled as a private in the famous 2nd ME where he attained the rank of Corporal and, later, a Sergeant. After the 2nd ME was redistributed to several units (primarily the 20th ME), and after suffering many casualties, Sergeant William Henry Boyce was eventually transferred to the 15th ME Infantry. He became a 2nd Lt of Company C, and, later, he was promoted to Captain of Company I (his father, Captain Michael Boyce, had to pull some political strings to earn a second enlistment - this time to Company K). Captain Michael Boyce's son, William Henry Boyce, would serve the remainder of the war with his father. After the Civil War, Captain William Henry Boyce was honorably discharged. He married Emma Victoria Wade Phelps (I believe in Pittsburgh, PA or in Beaver Borough, PA), and together they raised two boys, William Henry Boyce, Jr., and McKeen Boyce. It was McKeen Boyce who would trade horses with the Nez Perce Indian Tribe located in Northwest Idaho, on behalf of the United States Government. McKeen Boyce's son, James McKeen Boyce, would serve in the Army Air Corps, during WWII. His grandson, John Conlin Boyce, enlisted in the U.S. Navy, in Pensacola, FL, out of college (UC Davis in California), and currently serves with a Department of Defense firm connected with the Pentagon.

Colonel Michael Boyce's son would serve the remainder of the war with his father. William Boyce as the Colonel of Company I, and Michael Boyce as the Colonel of Company K. After the Civil War Colonel William Henry Boyce was honorably discharged. Boyce married Josephine (surname unknown at this time) and, together, they raised two children, in NY City. For some reason I am having difficulties locating William Henry Boyce's actual place and date of death.

Enlisted as a Private on 28 May 1861 at the age of 20.

Llewellyn Maddocks was born in 1847 in Eddington, ME, son of Asa Dyer Maddocks and Mary Penny. He joined the 2nd Maine Infantry in Nov 1861, claiming to be 18 although he was only 14. He was wounded in the right hand at the Battle of Groveton, VA and discharged. He later joined the Veterans Reserve Corps. In April 1865 a cannon he was loading to fire a salute honoring the surrender of Lee's army prematurely discharged blowing off part of his left thumb and injurying an eye. After the war he somehow ending up in Perry Co, MS where in 1870 he married Clarissa Garraway. She was the daughter of a local planter who had owned slaves and fought in the Confederate Army (9th MS Cavalry). Llewellyn and Clarissa had 5 children before he died in 1888. He is buried in Hattiesburg, MS.

I only recently discovered that I had a relative who fought in the war, and have only today received 'proof' that he was, indeed, with the 2nd Infantry, Co. E.

Thomas is my 3GGrandfather. Born in Ireland in 1841 he enlisted May 28,1861 and was discharged June 4,1863. He reenlisted in the 9th Maine Inf November 3,1863 and was wounded at Drury's Bluff,Va on May 16,1864.

Born in County Cork, Ireland abt. 1835. He left Ireland during the great famine, arriving in Bangor, ME. in June 1851. Sworn into federal service on 2 May 1861 as 3rd Sergeant of company 'I', an all Irish unit. Sent to hospital at the end of June 1862 for gunshot wound and malaria. Recovered enough to serve as mess sergeant of the hospital. Returned to Bangor with the 2nd Maine,June 1863. Married Ann Jane Taylor Oct. 1863, father of 9 children, member of two Grand Army (GAR) posts, made gravestones for a living. He died Jan 1904.
