Enlisted March 10, 1862 in Lafayette as an Private in the 26th infantry - A company, the “Lafayette Prairie Boys”, under Captain Eraste Mouton.
(Captain Mouton was the cousin of Brigadier General Alfred Mouton and nephew of Governor Alexandre Mouton, the General’s father)

POW at Vicksburg, Mississippi July 4, 1863 but release July 8th after signing agreement not to take up arms against USA. However, he did rejoin the war.

Appears on a list of the 26th La. Infantry reported in camp for exchange at Alexandria, La., before April 1, 1864. Same report list Headquarter’s Allen's Brigade., Shreveport, La., March 29, 1864,

The 26th regiment later consolidated with others into 22d regiment.

He was part of the surrender at New Orleans on May 26, 1865.

Paroled at New Iberia, La. sometime in July or August 1865.

The 2nd Louisiana Infantry, on April 9, 1865, surrendered at Appamattox Court House, Virginia.

Enlisted Mansfield, Sabine Parish LA Aug 5,1862. Taken prisoner 26 May 1865, released 15 June 1865 at Natchitoches, LA.

Charles was 32 when he joined on 6 May 1862 at Natchitoches, La. Enlisted by J. D Shelly for 3 years or the war. He was the brother in law of Evander Gandy. He fought at Shiloh, Labadieville [ Georgia Landing ] Mansville, La. He survived the war. died in Apple Sprngs, Trinity Co. Texas on 15 April 1896.He was the husband of Sarah Jane Gandy, my 2nd cousin 4 x removed.

Edward was born in Ireland in 1831 He enlisted at New Orleans 5 May 1862 in Capt Andrew F. Haynes' Co Crescent Regiment Louisiana Militia and assigned to 1st Lieut Stephen M Routh's Signal Corps. He was taken as POW at Labadieville on 27 Oct 1862 and paroled on the 29th. He appears on a Payment List dated 1 Sept - 31 Dec as Sergeant. He fought at Shiloh and the Red River Campaign. He was the father in law of my 4th cousin 3 x removed. He died 20 Feb 1913 in New Orleans, La.

John was born in Butler Co. Ala. 12 June 1838. He enlisted 6 May 1862 in Co B 11th Battalion Louisiana Infantry vol's. known as J.D. Shelton's Battalion. This unit became part of the Consolidated Crescent Regiment upon consolidation. He has 11 cards in his archival file. This unit saw action mainly in the Red River Campaign. Battles Mansville, Pleasant Hill, Yellow Bayou, and Atchafalaya River. He died 20 March 1917 in Natchitoches Parish, Louisiana. May God rest his soul.

John was born in Mississippi just north of Natchitoches Parish la. His parents were George P Byrd 1797 - 1850 & Priscilla Ann Jenkins b. 1805. Enlisted 7 May 1862 in Co C 11th Battalion La. Vols at Natchitoches, Natchitoches La. He was 18 years old. He has 4 cards in his archival file. He was in training [Camp of Instruction ] at Monroe, Ouachita Parish La. and died 3 July 1862 while in training at or near the camp. Cause of death is not given, but disease is suspect. This occurred before the consolidation into the Crescent Regiment. We are related by a distant marriage.

Alexia joined on 5 March 1862 at New Orleans. Enlisting for 90 days. He was engaged in the Battle at Shiloh Miss. His unit was temporarily reassigned as Co K 18th La Inf. This order was recinded and the reorganized Co C Crescent Regiment La. Infantry took to the field. He was wounded in a Train collision on the Mobile & Ohio railroad. On 28 Jan 1863 he is a patient in the Breckenridge Division Hospital and upon discharge was assigned as a clerk there thru Nov. 1863. His unit is surrendered at Grenada, Mississippi on 17 May 1865

william miller who was from many louisiana, enlisted in at the age of 37 on 7 may 1862 at natchitoches louisiana to serve the confederate army . when he left for the war he left behind a wife who was 4 months pregnant . it had been told by my grandfather from family records he had stayed close in contact by letters. william served in many important battles for the next two years all the way up to the battle of mansfield where he was never heard from again. it was said that his regiment came under heavy fire from cannon as the battle of sabine crossroads began. as his regiment appeard from the woods union artillery opened up with cannister shot thus causing heavy losses .william was killed 8 april 1864,the same day general beard had lost his life along with several other officers. to actually stand in the approx.area where my relative died brings tears to my eyes but also a sense of presence that he will always be with us as well as the others that made that supreme sacrifice.

Served from 1861-1865, His tombstone lists him in CO C of Consolidated Crescent Regiment, he was a gunsmith.

Newton was born 4 Dec 1844 in Arkansas. On the 1860 census he is living in Natchitoches, Louisiana at age 16. He has two cards in his archival file, neither of which gives much data. No date of enlistment or capture. The company on his CMR looks like Co. O but must be a D. The second card is "Roll of prisoners of war on a POW Roll dated 10 June 1865 which is the date of their parole. He was the 2nd husband of my 2nd cousin Mary Jane Pickens 3 x removed. I have his death certificate which shows he died 28 Feb 1926 in Sulphur Springs, Hopkins Co. Texas. I have been unable to find any grave for his wife.

Records indicate that he served in both E and I company. He was from Pollock Louisiana.

A native of France, he married Lucy E. Kerr (native of New Jersey) November 21, 1861 in New Orleans.

George was born in East Felicana Parish, La. He was 25 years old when he enlisted at Harrisburg, Catahoula Parish La. on 5 May 1862 with the formation of the unit. Enlisted by Capt. William B Spencer for 3 years or the war in Co F 11th Battalion La, Inf. This unit was consolidated with 16th Battn: Confederate Guards: ect to form Consolidated Crescent Regt. on 2 Nov 1863 at Simmesport, La. This unit fought in the Red River Campaign, Mansfield, Pleasant Hill and Yellow Bayou. We are related by distant marriage.

Martin was from Sabine Parish, Louisiana. He has two cards in his archival file. He enlisted 6 June 1863 at Bellwood, Sabine Parish La. He served in the 6th La. Cavalry that was consolidated into the Crescent Infantry Regiment. His unit was on patrol along the west bank of the Mississippi when word came of surrender. He was paroled at Natchitoches Parish La. on 9 June 1865. We are related by a distant marriage.

Jean was 27 years old when he joined 24 June 1864 in Natchitioches Parish, Louisiana. The Regiment was encamped at Camp Buckner at Natchitioches and he died there of Chronic Diarrhea on 18 Sept. 1864 in the camp hospital.

Augustin was my 2nd great uncle, he was killed at the battle of mansfield

Stephen D. Lord was killed at the Battle of Mansfield (or Sabine Crossroads) on April 8th, 1864 only a few miles from his home. The following day his wife, Martha and son William found his body on the battlefield (being shot in the head she recognized him only by the socks that she had knitted for him) and the two of them returned his body home.

Enlisted Oct. 4, 1862, Camp Pratt, La. On the Rolls of Company H. Also on Rolls of Co. G, when he returned from AWOL at Camp Buckner, Ala. on Dec. 31, 1864. Died from wounds received at Mansfield, May 18, 1864.

Evander has no archival file that I can find. His CSA pension was approved for his wife Mary Etta Jewel Morgan. That pension file is evidence of his service. He enlisted prior to the Battle of Mansville aka Sabine Cross Roads. Family documentation says he lost his right arm in the battle at Mansville. He survived and died in Centralia, Trinity Co. Texas on 10 March 1921. He was a physician and served in Co K [ Sumter Rifles - Orleans]

Arhtur Green Mangham served in the Consolidated Crescent Regiment at the Battle of Mansfield. He was also on board the Queen of the West when it was sank. He was fished out of Grand Lake and sent to Port Hudson where he was later paroled.
