Allen was born 23 Aug 1841 in East Feliciana Parish La. The 1860 census finds him at 20 years old in Iberville Parish, La. The Post Office is at Rosedale. He has 11 cards in his archival file. He enlisted 26 Aug 1861 at Camp Schlatre in Capt. Calvin W. Keep's Company [Ed Moore's Rangers] from Iberville Parish La.

His horse is valued at $175 and equipment $17.50 cents.

1 June 1862 escaped from the enemy - Unit was attached to Forrest's Cavalry June - July 1862 Army of Mississippi.

Captured at battle of Somerset aka Dutton's Hill Kentucky during Pegram's Kentucky Raid 22 March to 1 April 1863. Sent to Military Prison in Ky. and on 30 March 1863 sent to City Point Virginia. Believe he was at the battles of Corinth and Stone River.
He died 9 Sep 1886 and is buried at the Tucker - Millican family Cem. East Baton Rouge Cem. in that Parish.
He was the 3rd cousin of wife of 2nd cousin 3 x removed.

Andrew Hynes Gay

On 26 Aug 1861 Andrew Hynes Gay, age 19, of St. Louis Plantation, Plaquemine, enlisted as a private in Company A (Ed Moore Rangers, Iberville Parish) of the 1st Louisiana Cavalry. Scott’s Cavalry Regiment (as it was often called, after its founder and leader, Colonel John Simms Scott) served with distinction throughout the war, mainly with the Army of Tennessee until it was detached in January 1864 and ordered back to Louisiana in April. Andrew was captured at Grosse Tete on 20 Nov 1864, while on furlough, and imprisoned on Ship Island until his exchange on 7 Apr 1865.

thomas b. windsor was my step 3rd great grandfather. he was born on december 11, 1815 and enlisted in co. a 1st louisiana cavalry, ed moore's rangers. badly wounded at the battle of vicksburg, he was captured retreating along the mississippi river and sent to cairo, illinois. from there he was transferred to camp morton union pow camp in indianapolis, indiana. he arrived at camp morton on november 26, 1863 and died on december 18, 1863, probably of wounds. he was 48 years and 7 days old. he is buried at crown hill cemetary in indianapolis, indiana, in a mass grave along with more than 1000 other confederate heroes. DEO VENDICE !!
