1st Sgt. George Washington Reese was born 10 Oct 1837 Piqua, Shelby Co., Ohio and later moved with his family to Shawnee County, Kansas and died 20 May 1913 in Electric, Montana . Served four years 10 Nov 1861 - 14 Jan 1865, mustered out Leavenworth, Kansas. In 1870's George was a scout for Gen. Howell and was one of the most valued scouts for the government during the campaign against the Nez Perce Indians. He settled on a ranch in Electric, Montana in 1874. He was one of the first guides through Yellowstone National Park and served for many years as a guide. He became known as 'Old Guide of the Mountains'. George died at his ranch and the funeral was held at his home on 22 May 1913. The remains were taken to Livingston, Montana on the park train and the Farragut Post Grand Army of the Republic had charge of the services at Mt. View Cemetery. He was 75 year old.

Enlisted 23 Aug 1862 as a blacksmith. Was assigned to I Co. In 1863 was promoted to Corporal as a farrier. In march 1865 was assigned to the new C Co. He mustered out on June 22 1865
