George W. Keller - Corporal
|
George W. Keller was born 26 June 1830 in New Amsterdam, Harrison County, Indiana. He was the second son of Henry and Rebecca (Muck) Keller. He married Mary Caroline Barbre 18 March 1858 in Salisbury, Sangamon County, Illinois. He was a United Bretheren minister who served had served churches in Indiana and Illinois. He was both a Chaplain and the unit's Postmaster during his time in the Army. Later, he would act as a missionary in Kansas, and work at churches in Illinois and Missouri until he retired in 1910.
When he enlisted, George and Mary Caroline were parents of three children: John Lawrence, Samuel Harvey, and Emma Asenath. After he returned, they had five more: Eliza Ozeta, Anna Tessoria, William Edward, Franklin Robinson, and James Walton.
Rev. and Mrs. Keller had been married 62 years when he died 3 May 1920 at the home of their daughter Emma Keller Burchfield in Taylorville, Christian County, Illinois.
