William Eister Martin - Private
William Martin was born in WV and moved to Indiana when he was 5. At 17 years and 10 months old (5/26/1864) he enlisted in Co B, 124th Indiana Infantry. He was immediately detailed to the Co A Surgeon as an orderly. He served in that capacity until he was mustered out on 8/31/1865 at Greensboro, NC.

He was disabled 6/15/1864 at Kennesaw Mountain, GA for rheumatism, piles, diarrhea, and a weak back.

After the war, he married, relocated to Iowa, North Texas, and eventually settled in Martha, Oklahoma. Out of eleven children, eight survived. His wife passed away when he was 58. At 59yo he remarried ( a woman 30 years his junior) and had a daughter. He outlived his second wife, too. He passed away when he was 89 from Gangrene. He did not want his leg removed for fear of becoming an invalid.
