My great great grandfather. John S. was a Quaker as were several other members of the 69th. He regularly attended reunions of the 69th until his death in 1913. He is buried with 4 generations of the Thornton family in Willow Grove Cemetery in Fountain City IN.
I have identified additional 3 uncles and 2 first cousins who were in the 69th. Brazillar Reynolds, Henry C. Reynolds, Wilber F. Reynolds, William Johnson, Jonas Johnson
I would like to hear from others who have relatives in the 69th.
I have fringe with note pinned to it From Confederate flag. Does anything else have similar item with information about where it was taken.
Does anyone have a reunion picture with members of the 69th identified ?

James C. Lacy - Private |
My wife's G-G-G-Grandfather
James C. Lacy was a mason worker from Delaware County, IN. He was born in 1836 in North Carolina. On Aug. 7, 1862, he enlisted with his brother William P. Lacy in Co. B, 69th Indiana Inf. The regiment was mustered into federal service on August 19th. Just 10 days later their regiment was thrown into battle at Richmond, KY. The entire regiment was captured by forces of Gen. Kirby Smith. They were paroled a short time later. Sometime while the regiment was campaigning in Louisiana and Mississippi, James became sick and he was transferred to the VRC. His brother William P. died of disease at Young's Point, LA, in Feb. 1863. After being transferred to the VRC, James' health did not improve. He died back home in Muncie, IN, on March 24, 1864. He left a widow Phebe (Turner) and two small children. Phebe later re-married and moved to southeast Nebraska.
