Enlisted September of 1861. Discharged April of 1865. Captured at Newnam, Georgia on 29 July 1864 during Sherman's march to the sea, Imprisoned in Andersonville Prison until relocated to Florance Prison in South Carolina. Released finally in 1865. Also listed as serving in 2nd Indiana Cavalry in official pension records.
Other members of the same unit as named in the pension papers are William H. Sailors who served in Co. F of the 41st, and James T. Abshire, and Josiah Haifley who were also taken prisoner and served time in Andersonville and Florance.
