Samuel R Foster
- 2nd Lieutenant
Samuel R. Foster, my great-grandfather, enlisted as a Private in Company C, 21st Regiment, Indiana Volunteers on July 6, 1861. He was Honorably Discharged in New Orleans, LA on December 31, 1862. He then re-enlisted on January 1, 1863 under Captain William Bough. On June 18, 1864, he was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant. His Final Discharge was in Baton Rouge, on January 10, 1866.

Samuel R. Foster was born July 15, 1836 in Coshocton County, Ohior, and died April 24, 1924 in Taylor Township, Greene County, Indiana. He married Mary Jane Hatfield on March 7, 1866 in Bloomfield, Indiana. They had five children, Joseph Edwin (1866-1880), Clarence Alfred (1868-1941), Leonidas Clifford (1872-1940, my grandfather), and Carrie I. (1884-1962)
