Valentine discharged January 1863 due to inability to see. Considered of no use to Battery. Doctor couldn't heal. Captain Suttermeier stated cause due to dust of Alabama chasing Confederates in the summer of 1862. Received invalid pension 1863. His third wife Martha,who received a pension is buried Evergreen as a Kolbe ,widow of Valentine Kolbe , married Valentine Seitz 1891 DeKalb County IN 1.
