Discharged from service seven months later, along with every Officer of the 109th, for 'utter incompetence' and 'evincing no disposition to improve themselves', by Adjutant General's Special Order No. 6 issued in Lake Providence, Louisiana, 10 April 1863. Regiment was said to be riddled with members of the Knights of the Golden Circle, a pro-Confederate secret society. Died 1915. Buried at Anna Cemetery in Anna, Illinois.
