Devers (spelled DeVeairs on his tombstone in Callicott Cemetery, Gallatin County, Illinois)was born on Oct. 24, 1841 at Cane Creek, IL to Michael Thomas Devers and Elizabeth Harrelson, and died May 2, 1921. He was mustered out of the 56th in 1865. His younger brother Ezekiel (born 1845) also served in F Company 56th IL Infantry and was discharged after the Siege of Corinth (1862).

He died 28 Sep 1862 at Columbia,Adair,KY of TB while returning home from Camp Clear Creek,Miss. He left his wife,Mary and 6 children. They lived at Williamson CO,IL near Herrin. He was 47 yrs old.
