Book was from Thomas Co Ga. He was about 21 when he joined Co F 29th Regt. Ga Infantry. Enlisting on 14 Sept. 1861. He had several family members who served in this Regiment. He died during the war on 29 Oct. 1864 in the Erwin hospital at Barnesville, Lamar County Georgia. He may have been the twin of Thomas Neal 'Tom' Gandy. Both died without issue.

Berry Hill Gandy - Sergeant
Berry was one of many in his and extended family who stepped forward to repel the invaders. He has 14 cards in his file. He enlisted in Thomas County Georgia 6 May 1862. On 7 June 1864 he is in Stephenson's Brigade at Dalton Georgia, he is wounded in the left hand by gunshot and given a 60 day medical furlough, to Thomasville, Thomas Co Ga. On 16 Dec. 1864 he is captured at Nashville, Tenn. sent to Louisville Ky and on to Camp Chase Ohio where he remained until the end of the war.

Brinkley Gandy - Private
Brinkley was about 21 when he joined from Thomas Co. Georgia. Enlisting in Co H. 29th Regt. Georgia Infantry. He had eight other family members in this Regiment. Many of the wounded from the battle of Vicksburg were taken to Newton, Newton Miss. He died of his wounds there on 11 August 1863.

Daniel was from Thomas County Georgia. b. 21 Jan 1839 he was about about 22 when he enlisted in Co H 29th Regiment Georgia Infantry. Other than family documents and a Memory stone placed for him in the Gandy Family cemetery in Thomas Co Ga. His unit was in Savannah and in the engagement at Port Royal before being sent to Virginia. It is believed he died 25 Sept 1862 in the hard fighting around that area. His body was not recovered. Matthew was born July 1823. He enlisted at Thomasville, Georgia on 1 Oct. 1861 he was about 38 years old. Enlisting in Capt. Wm.D Mitchell's Company - Thomas County Vols. The unit mustered in at Savannah. Matthew contracted measles, and had a bout of chest infections which left him unfit for duty. He was mustered out on 31 May 1862. He is my 2nd cousin 4 x removed, the son of Mary E Gandy 1806 - 1840

Thomas joined as 1st Sergt. in Capt William D Mitchell's Co. Thomas County Vol's on 1 Oct. 1861 at Savannah Georgia. He was elected as 2nd Lieut. on 7 May 1862 at Causton's Bluff Georgia. He resigned on 11 July 1862 via surgeons certificate because of Ill Health. He rejoined the fight in the 12th Georgia Militia as a Captain. ' Gandy's Unit' . He was paroled at Thomasville,Ga. on 15 May 1865.

Thomas was about 24 years old when he joined Capt. Burch's Co I 29th Georgia Infantry. He had just gotten married. He would never see his wife or family again. He enlisted 23 Feb. 1861 in Thomas Co Ga. and mustered in at Savannah on 6 May 1862. He died of Pneumonia on 5 Jan 1863 at CSA General Hospital #4 at Wilmington, New Hanover Co. NC. His death was registered 9 Feb. 1863 Certificate #207. Remarks. Boston Georgia. He has 19 Cards in his file and it is one of the best documented files I have encountered. He was the husband of my 2nd cousin 4x removed. Mary Hill Gandy. His inventory of belonging were 1,knapsack, 2 pr,pants, 1 coat, 1 vest, 2 pr. shoes, 1 pr ---, 2 pr. socks, 1 pr. gloves, 1 hat, 2 pr. suspenders.

Francis was from Thomas County Georgia. He enlisted at about age 17 on 1 Oct 1861 at Savannah in Capt William D Mitchel's Company of Thomas County Vol's. In old co H which became New Co I. He has 4 cards in his archival file. His file does not say much about his military service. He survived the war and died in 1902. He has my undying respect for his resistance to the northern aggressors. He was my 3rd cousin 3 times removed.
