THIS UNIT WAS MUSTARD IN SEPT 1864 AND SENT TO SAVANNA GEORGIA TO FIGHT OFF SHERMAN AND HIS TROOPS TO KEEP THEM FROM RAPING ROBBING AND BURNING HOMES AND WHOLE TOWNS TO THE GROUND.HE WAS 17. TO BAD THEY DID NOT KILL SHERMAN. LEANDER PAINTER IS MY GREAT, GREAT GRANDFATHER. HE MOVED TO TEXAS AFTER THE WAR AND WAS A FARMER AND A PREACHER AND A MASTER MASON. HE DIED AT THE AGE OF 38 OF T.B.HE WAS BORN 1847 AND DIED 1885. HE IS BURRIED AT THE ROCK CHURCH CEMETARY IN HOOD COUNTY TEXAS.

First served in a 6 month local defense unit the 4th Battalion State Guards in 1863. James then enlisted May 3, 1864 in Company D (Tugalo Rangers) 11th Georgia Cavalry. He enlisted at Mossy Creek Campground, Ga. He was listed as a 5'10 30 yr old farmer with blue eyes, dark hair and a dark complexion. On August 2, 1864 he was captured near Atlanta, Ga. He was sent to Nashville, Tn then to Louisville, Ky Military Prison sometime during a 5 day period ending August 10, 1864. On August 10, 1864 he was sent to the Military Prison Camp Chase in Ohio. On November 8, 1864 he died of Congestive Int- Fever. He lies in grave No. 434 located 1/3 of a mile south C.C.
