Mitchell was captured, sent to Military Prison at Alton, IL on 9 Jul 1863, and thence to Camp Douglas, Chicago, IL on 23 Jul 1864. Died 5 Dec 1864. Buried in Grave 223, Block 2, Chicago City Cemetery.
