Moses Albert Collins
Moses Albert Collins - 2nd Sergeant |
|
Moses was born 3 April 1831 in Tuscaloosa Co. Ala. He married Narcissus Elizabeth Rowland 7 Oct 1852. He has 18 cards in his archival file. He enlisted at Boonville, Ark. 12 May 1862. One source gives his enlistment as being at Monticello, Ark. The Cavalry regiment is known as Selmons. He is listed on roll of prisoners as wounded on 19 Oct 1864 and having been captured at Boonville, Ark. He is sent to the military prison at Alton Illinois arriving there on 6 Dec 1864. He died there on 24 Dec 1864 and is buried in a mass grave at that location. ONe source states he is with Fagan's Division. It appears that he was wounded in the battle of Hatchie's Bridge or a skirmish in that area but before the fight at Stones River.

This is my paternal GG grandfather. His obit says he joined the Second Arkansas Regiment of Cavalry at the age of 16 and served the last 3 yrs of the civil war. I have a handwritten metal framed paper in which he wrote: Co. C. 2nd Ark. Regiment Cavalry. He was a farmer and lived around Stephens and then Elliott, AR. He died 1-17-1918. His obit also states that he was a member of the Hugh McCollum Camp No. 778 which was apparently a local group of civil war veterans. He married Catherine 'Mittie' Elliott 12-26-1869.
