William Rayford Chunn - Private   
William was born 15 Nov 1843 at Bell's Landing Monroe Co. Ala. He was about 19 when he enlisted in Capt. Herman Sengstak's Company of Light Artillery. He has 19 cards in his archival file. It was organized at Mobile, Ala in Dec 1861 and remained there until the summer of 1862 when it moved to Columbus Miss. He was with Moore's Brigade, Forney's Division at Vicksburg where he was slightly injured. After his parole he rejoined his unit and on 24 Oct 1864 he was assigned duty with Capt. O.W. Barrett's Battery. He served in the Dalton - Alanta Campaign. He fought at Corinth, Hatchie's Bridge aka Davis Bridge. HIs last fight was on the Ala. Miss line in the battle of Columbus aka Girard where his unit was overrun, and they lost all their guns, and most were captured. This battle on 16 April 1865 was the last large land battle of the war. Surrendered 4 May 1865 64 officers and men. He died 22 Jan 1932 in his beloved southland of Alabama. We are related by a distant marriage.
