Ferdinand Seitz - Private
4th Great Uncle - Private, Company B, 18th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment. Born on October 8, 1831 in Lahr, Ortenaukreis, Baden-Wuerttemberg, Germany, he was drafted into Company B of the 18th Wisconsin on September 22, 1864 at the age of 32 while residing in Caledonia, Wisconsin. A portion of the regiment was engaged in the Battle of Allatoona Pass, Georgia on October 5, 1864. In November the new recruits of the 18th Wisconsin, probably including Ferdinand, were attached to the 93rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry Regiment, and they participated in Sherman's March to the Sea, the Siege of Savannah, the Carolinas campaign, and fought at the Battle of Bentonville, North Carolina in March of 1865. The drafted men were reattached to 18th Wisconsin in April of 1865. Mustered Out on June 2, 1865. Died on October 9, 1906 in Brighton, Kenosha County, Wisconsin. Brother of Union soldiers Joseph Seitz, 26th Wisconsin, Charles Seitz, 39th Wisconsin, and Fidel Seitz, 1st Nebraska.
