Although West Virginia was created officially as a 'Union' state in 1863, many of its people continued to view themselves as Virginians and remained loyal to Virginia and the South. The sacrifices of the Confederate soldiers that were from the land that became West Virginia have been forgotten for too long and deserve to be told.
