Company C
Alfred Prouty - Private
Alfred Prouty is the brother of Charles Prouty. They both joined the 3rd Vermont but Alfred joined on 2/22/62 and died on 8/23/62. Ironic that his brother Charles joined the regiment on 8/18/62, five days before Alfred died.

Company F
Charles H Prouty - Private
Charles Prouty is one of my direct decendents. The Prouty family arrived in Massachusetts in 1670. The Prouty's were in over 133 union regiments. The 'Old' Vermont brigade had the highest killed then any other brigade in the union army during the civi war. The 3rd Vermont alone lost: 5 officers killed, 201 enlisted men killed or mortally wounded. 1 officer and 164 enlisted men died from disease. Total: 371 (3rd Vermont)

Company I
George A. Ford - Corporal
Information about regiment and company was found on gravestone in Guildhall, Vt. George Ford mustered in as a private. He reenlisted and mustered out as a corporal. He was wounded at the Wilderness and captured at Petersburg; he was paroled out from his captivity. He was a farmer in Guildhall Vermont for the remainder of his life. He never talked about the war at all to his son, my grandfather, so no stories were passed on directly by Mr. Ford.
