Mastin Crawford Covington - Private
Mastin's archival records have not been found. His proof of Confederate service is validated by the apporoval of the pension # 32431 approved for his wife Sarah jane Enox which was filed on 8 May 1915 from Red River County, Texas. He served in the 23rd Regiment Texas Cavalry. He survived the war and died 22 July 1885 in Manchester, Red River County Texas. deo Vindice. He is my 2nd cousin 4x removed.

Archie Matthew Covington - Corporal
Archie was 38 years old when he joined other family members in this unit. He enlisted at Clarksville, when the unit was formed in the Spring of 1862. Co. A 23 Regiment Texas cavalry [Gould's]. He has two cards in his archival file. The cover CMR and a Regimental Return Card dated 5 March 1865 noting that he is returning from leave. His Regiment fought mainly in the Red River Campaign. Battles at Mansfield, Pleasant Hill & Blair's Landing. In Feb 1865 the regiment is dismounted and is attached to Robinson's Brigade, Maxey's Division- District of Texas, New Mexico & Arizona. Surrendered 26 May 1865. He is my 2nd cousin 4 x removed.

James was 20 Years old when he joined at Clarksville, Red River County Texas on 15 May 1863. He has seven cards in his archival file. He also appears in Gould's Regiment 27th Texas Cavalry. In Nov. 1863 he is left sick at Camp Chambers. He died 12 March 1876 and is buried at Manchester Cemetery, Manchester, Red River Co. Texas. Deo Vindice

Thomas has 6 cards in his archival file. He was 38 years old when he enlisted in Co. A 23rd Texas Cavalry. Enlisting on 15 May 1863 at Clarksville, Texas. This unit is also known as Gould's Regiment 27th Texas Cavalry. Thomas is sick a lot. Sick in camp right after enlistment. Nov. 1863 he is left behind sick at Millegan since 9 Sept. He is on detached duty with the Quatermaster Dept. at Beaumont 1 Nov. 18--. In March 1865 he is sick at home with a surgeons certificate. He is my 2nd cousin 4x removed. Deo Vindice

Thomas Massie is my fourth great grand father. He was born in Missouri in 1830 living there until 1861 when he would move his family to Clarksville in Red River County, Texas. He would enlist in the 23rd Texas Cavalry Co. B on March 1st, 1862 serving throughout. After the war he would stay around Red River and Fannin Counties in Texas. He passed away in 1872 but it is unknown where exactly he is buried. If anyone has information or photos of my ancestor please feel free to reach out.

Charles Caldwell Thompson - Captain
Charles Caldwell Thompson b. May 12,1834 in Washington, Rhea Co., TN. His parents were Dr. Gideon Blackburn Thompson and Myra Waterhouse. He left home as a young man and came to Wise County in 1858 as one of the original settlers. According to his wife's pension application, C. C. Thompson served in the Confederate Arm during the years of 1862-spring of 1862 as lieut. then captain of Company E 23rd Texas Calvary C. S. A. under Col. M. C. Gould . This company was organized at Prairie Point, TX March 16, 1862. According to the War Dept., the Adjutant General's Office in Washington, D. C. from the Comptroller's Dept., State of Texas dated Oct. 3, 1924, C. C. Thompson was elected March 16,1862, Promoted to 1st lieut. Oct. 3, 1862, promoted to captain Oct. 1, 1863. His name appears on a regimental return for March 1865, present for duty at Camp Chambers. His name is found at C. C. Thompson, not Charles Caldwell Thompson. His great grandson, Clyde McMurray, says that Charlie was shot in the shoulder in the Bayou Bend Campaign on Texas-Louisiana border by a Federal trooper and one of his men, W. A. Blagg of Wise County shot and killed the Federal soldier as he took aim a second time to shoot Thompson. The Confederate soldiers fought the Federal soldiers with their fists as the Federal gunboats moved up the river.

Pitts David H. enlisted in the 23rd Texas Calvary Regiment, Co. I. and was detailed to shoe horses and run a wagon forge. The Unit surrender in June 1865 and disbanded at Harrisburg near Houston, Texas. David served until the end of the war. David was a blacksmith by trade and the son of Joel Pitts SR. of Pickens Co, SC
David first service in the 9th Texas Brigade.
