Edward was born 12 Aug 1831 in Jackson, Madison Co. Tennessee. In 1860 he is in Texas. He enlists in Capt. Milton Wesley Damron's Co. Darnell's Regt Texas Vol's. Which becomes Co D 18th Darnell's. He enlists at age 30 on 15 Jan. 1862 and musters 15 March 1862 in Bell Co. Texas. His horse is valued at $150 and equipment at $15. This Regiment was consolidated 1 July 1863 with the 17th Tx. Cav and was dismounted. On 9 April 1865 it became Co H Granbury's Consolidated Texas Brigade. Edward has 3 cards in his archival file. He did not return from the war. His family history says he died some time in 1864. It appears he died during the Atlanta Campaign and where is known but to God. His brother James M Draper served in this Regiment. They were my 3rd cousins 3 x removed.

Company H
Wilson Ivy Coggin
- Captain
Shortly after it's formation, The original Co. Commander died & Coggin originally from N.C. became the commander throughout the remainder of the War. I wrote a compiled history of the unit, which was published & can be found on lulu.com at : https://www.lulu.com/shop/ronald-e-herring/ellis-county-texass-company-h-18th-texas-cavalry/paperback/product-179r2vzv.html?q=coggin&page=1&pageSize=4. He is buried at Telico, TX at it's locked cemetery and a bronze marker with the incorrect name "William I. Coggin" is there. He always signed his name as "W.I. Coggin" therefore the misspelling on his marker. Company H was the ONLY company of the 18th Texas Cavalry that remained mounted.

Company I
James Young Lee
- Corporal
James was captured at Arkansas Post, sent to Camp Douglas and rejoined the 18th with the Army of the Tennessee. James continued with the 18th through the rest of their existence until being captured again at the Battle of Atlanta. He was again take to a POW camp and eventually released at the end of the war. He suffered ill health during the rest of his life due to the hard service during the war. James moved to Brown County Texas where he ranched that area with his Lee family near Brooksmith Texas. It is unknown when he died or where he is buried, but he probably died about 1890 in Texas.
