John Kraft Slemmer - Private
John enlisted in the 83rd PA, wounded and medically discharged. He again enlisted, in the 72nd PA, wounded and discharged. Was called up with the 34th PA Inf Regt of Militia as a SGT after the Emancipation Proclamation to quell the riots going on in almost every northern cities, and when the Confederates invaded MD and PA in Jun 1863. He was in Harrisburg with his unit during Gettysburg. After his release from the 34th he joined the Union Navy, serving aboard the USS Suwanee, and again discharged medically from the Receiving Ship USS Vermont in 1867, before the Suwanee ran aground and sank offshore Washington State in the Pacific.

Alfred James Sherrod - Private
Alfred Sherrod enlisted along with his cousin, Sylvester Sherrod, at Edinboro in 1861. He served until the expiration of service with the 83rd PVI in 1864 without any serious injuries and returned home to western Pennsylvania. His name is included on the 83rd PVI monument at Little Round Top, Gettysburg Battlefield.

Lewis R Sherrod - Private
Brother to Sylvester and cousin to Alfred Sherrod. Enlisted Aug 1862 at Edinboro and became a fifer in his regiment's drum corp. He was at Gettysburg, Laurel Hill and the Wilderness battles before being killed at Petersburg in June 1864. Lewis Sherrod's name is included on the 83rd PVI monument at Little Round Top, Gettysburg Battlefield.

Sylvester Sherrod - Private
Enlisted 1861 at Edinboro. Fought at Battle of Hanover Courthouse and Gaines' Mill. Wounded and captured at Gaines' Mill but died of wounds in August 1862. Sylvester sent home photographs of himself in the 83rd's Zouave-type uniform. Am hoping a collector will notify me if surname 'SHERROD' appears on any Civil War soldier's photographs.

Warren Stuyverson enlisted in Edinboro, Pennsylvania (Green Township, Erie County) on August 26th of 1861. He served as a Private in Company D of the 83rd Pennsylvania Regiment of Volunteers in the Infantry. He was wounded in action in 1863 and was discharged on a Surgeons Certificate on February 3rd of 1863.
