111th Ohio Infantry
Company B
Conrad Leslie - Private
Captured near Lenior TN on Nov. 16, 1863, during Burnside's retreat to Knoxville. Fifty-two members of Co. B on picket duty were left behind and captured. Regiment history says 36 members of Co. B died in Andersonville, though that may not be true. Conrad's muster roll indicates both that he died in Andersonville and at Columbia, S.C. His date of death is recorded as March 18, 1864. Andersonville did not begin accepting prisoners until late February 1864. He is not listed among the dead in Andersonville records. Best guess is he died of dysentery while being transferred to Andersonville.
