1833 – 1917. He was conscripted on Aug 27, 1862. Promoted from 4th Sergeant to 3rd Sergeant on Feb 6, 1863. Nov 1863 shows absent sick at Petersburg VA. On Jan 18, 1864 reduced to Private and reported sick absent. March, 1864, he shows present. He took the oath on May 5, 1865. He was a land owner, farmer and merchant. His general store and grist mill was located in the town of Floyds in the Peters Creek Community.

James B. Ellington was from Chatham County, NC. From the 61st, he subsequently was elected to the rank of Major and commanded the 8th Batallion of Junior Reserves. He was wounded in battle, recovered but relieved of his command. He then returned to his original company and soon afterward was killed at the Battle of Fort Harrison, VA - September 30,1864.

Mustered in at Fort Fisher NC on 15 May 1862 by Capt. W.B. Lanier for 3 years. He took the Oath of Allegiance to the State of North Carolina. Oct 1864 he is detailed as an Engineer and detailed to report to Col Haris, of General Beauregard's Staff. The 61st was assigned to General Clingmans Brigade, Hokes Division, Army of Northern Virginia. He was 6 foot tall.
This unit became the 61st Regiment NC Infantry.

Simon was born 5 Dec 1838 in Pollocksville, Jones County, NC. He enlisted 20 June 1863 in Co K 61st Infantry. Entered service as 3rd Lt and was promoted to 2nd Lt. Served in Clingman's Brigade, Hoke's Division. He saw action at Batchelder's Creek, Drewery's Bluff, Cold Harbor, Petersburg Siege, Globe Tavern & Fort Harrison where he was captured on 30 Sept 1864. Sent to Fort Delaware where he was released on 4 June 1865 after swallowing the Yellow Dog. He died 16 Oct 1903 and is buried in Brocks Family Cemetery in Trenton, Jones County, NC. He was the father-in-law of my 4th cousin 3 x removed.
