John Hendrickson

John Hendrickson – This is what I know as of now. He left NYC on May 27, 1861 and was mustered into the Union Army on June 8th 1861. Mustered in with the 9th NY Militia (Also known as the 83rd NY Volunteers) as Captain. Fought at Sandy Hook, Cedar Mountain, Rappahannock Station, 2nd Bull Run (Manassas), South Mountain, Antietam and Fredericksburg. Was promoted to Major Nov 24,1862, promoted to Lt. Colonel Dec. 27,1862. Promoted to Colonel Feb 3,1863. He was wounded and lost leg in the battle of Fredericksburg, convalesced at Armory Square Hospital Wash D.C. Returned to service with the 13th Regiment Veterans Reserve Corp, and was made Brevet General on Oct 10, 1863. Lived at 119 West 82nd Street NYC until the time of his death at age 69, on June 29th 1902.He was buried on July 2, 1902 in Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, NY. He was married, but I do not know wife’s name or if they had any children.
