Gen., commanded Tucker’s Bde/Hindman’s Divn at Resaca (w), command of Dist. of Southern Mississippi and East Louisiana.

He originally enlisted as a Private in the 41st Mississippi Infantry Volunteers (Confederate) on Jan. 14, 1862, for a period of 12 months.

He was promoted to Sergeant late in 1862 (Nov. or Dec). He was admitted to the CSA Post Hospital in Dalton, GA for 'Debilitas' and returned to duty on Jan. 13, 1863. He was killed in battle at Chickamauga, Sept. 21, 1863.

Elbert was born 8 Sept 1828 in Clark Co. Ala. He enlisted 21 April 1862 in [Old] Co. H 41st Regt. Miss. Infantry. When he was wounded 31 Dec 1862 at Murfreesboro his unit is noted as [New] Co C. Enlisted at Marion Station, by Capt J. M. Hicks for 3 years. After he is wounded he is given a 40 day furlough. It is noted that in Aug. 1863 he has rejoined his Company. 1 Dec 1863 he is promoted to 3rd Corporal. He reenlisted for the war on 29 Jan 1864. He is captured near Jonesboro Ga. on 31 Aug 1864. Data on where he was held as POW is not known. He was paroled 10 May 1865 at Meridian, Miss. He died 13 Jan 1909 in Madison Co. Texas. Buried in Willowhole Cem. North Zulch, Madison Co. Texas. He is in my ancestor tree as a very distant relative by marriage. PS: for researchers his Regiment was consolidated near the end of the war with what was left of the 7th, 9th, 10th & 44th Regiments plus a sharpshooters company.

John was the father of William Robert Nunnery. John enlisted 8 Feb 1862 in the [old] Co H 41st Regiment which was changed to [New] Co C of same Regt. Enlisting at Marion Station, Miss. He was assigned duty as Teamster with the Regimental Wagon's and remained in that duty status for the entire war. He survived and died 4 Dec 1880 in Lauderdale County Miss. He was the Father in Law of stepdaughter of my 1st cousin 6 x removed.

William was 18 years old when he enlisted 1 Apr 1863 at Marion Station, Miss. by Lt. Latham. He was wounded in his right leg in the 2nd say of battle at Chickamauga. He re-enlisted 29 Jan 1864. His unit was part of a consolidation in early April 1865 which was designated 9th Regt, Miss. Inf. They were captured and paroled shortly after at Greensboro, NC.

George was born in 1838, He was 22 when he enlisted in Old Co. C 41st Miss. Infantry. This later became [New] Co H 41st Regt. Miss Inf. He enlisted 9 March 1862 at Rocky Ford, Mississippi. for three years. Enlisted by Capt. H. J. Duke. He died at Shelbyville, Tennessee on 30 March 1863. His wife Isabella M A Dowdy nee Norwood received $106.87 cents as settlement. She filed on 19 Jan 1864. Another young life sacrificed on the alter of northern greed and political need. Deo Vindice.

John was an Alabamian, but was living in Mississippi in 1860 while his family remained in Lawrence County, Alabama. He worked as a carpenter. The CSA took heavy losses at Buzzard’s Roost Gap near Dalton, GA May 8-9, 1864. He died May 13th, presumably of his wounds. John was survived by his wife, Margaret “Jane” Little Roberts, and their four children, Jesse, John, William and Charlotte. He was thirty-seven years old.

Fullname was Right Allen Byrd but went by his middle name of Allen or his nickname of Tanner. He was native of North Carolina but moved to Noxubee County, MS, with his family around 1840. Enlisted April 1862 in Macon, Noxubee County, by Capt. G. D. Moore for a period of 3 years or til the end of the war. During the war, he was captured near Dalton, Georgia after the Battle of Resaca on May 13, 1864 and held as a Prisoner of War at Camp Morton in Indianapolis, Indiana, from May 22, 1864 until his release on May 10, 1865 upon taking an Oath of Allegiance to the United States. On his Oath of Allegiance, it lists his place of residence as Noxubee County, Miss., his complexion as dark, his hair and eyes as dark, and his height as 5 foot 5 1/4 inches. Tanner Byrd was not a big man.
