Hawkes Fearing, Jr.
- Lt. Colonel
Lt. Colonel Hawkes Fearing, Jr. served as second in command of the 4th Massachusetts Infantry, a three months unit, and was also a member of the Hingham Massachusetts militia, the town where he was originally from. At the end of the 90 day enlistment of the 4th Massachusetts, Lt. Colonel Fearing moved to NH to pursue business interests. In November, 1862 he was appointed Colonel in command of the 8th New Hampshire Infantry and led the 8th New Hampshire in numerous battles in the Louisiana and Texas campaigns. He received severe wounds during the war, losing a leg. After the war Colonel Fearing returned to his hometown of Hingham Massachusetts where he served as librarian of The Hingham Public Library until his death in 1910. Colonel Fearing is buried in the Hingham Center Cemetery, Hingham, MA.

Enlisted in Company C, 4th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts on 23 September 1862. Enlisted same day, along with his son, Dura Thomas Weston. Dura (the father) was 45 years of age and Dura Thomas Weston (the son) was 22.

Mustered out on 28 August 1863 in Camp Hooker, Lakeville, MA as the rank of Sergeant.

Enlisted as a Sergeant on 19 September 1862 at the age of 22. (Note/question from Barbara D.: Is it odd that the record shows DURA THOMAS WESTON) enlisting at the rank of Sergeant? It would seem a 22 year old would be enlisting as a Private)

Enlisted in Company C, 4th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts on 23 September 1862. Enlisted same day, along with his father, also named Dura Weston. Dura Thomas Weston (the son) was 22 years of age and Dura Weston (the father) was 45.

Enlisted as a Private Sept. 22, 1862 Co I, 4th Infantry Regiment Massachusetts at the age of 22(born 1841). Died of disease March 22, 1863 in New Orleans, LA. He had been a fisherman in Duxbury, Ma in civilian life. He was a descendent of Thomas Delano of Plymouth Colony, and the son of Charles B. Delano II and Abigail Bates of Duxbury, Mass. There is no record of wife or children.

Dont have much on Elijah just says he was in the 4th Mass which was a 3 month regiment (militia) 1861. This regiment fought at Big Bethal and their 90 days were up. Elijah tranferred to the 39th Massachusetts regiment.
