Company K
Andrew Cromwell - Private
Great Uncle Andrew (Baltimore) joined the 10th MD Infantry (Co K) on July 20, 1863 for a six-month term -- spent guarding the Maryland Heights above Harpers Ferry. This enlistment came right after the excitement of Gettysburg and right after the 18th brithday of this oldest son, but also right after Lincoln's post-Gettysburg draft. Not sure if he was drafted or volunteered. But, he re-enlisted in the 7th MD Infantry (Co K) on March 29, 1864 at the height of the excitement over Grant's leadership and at the beginning of the Wilderness Campaign. He managed to survive the entire campaign -- including Laurel Hill -- and made it all the way through the end of the war.
