Trying to find civilian history, photos, any other info of my GGGrandfather. I have many of his papers such as both his commissions, orders, payvouchers, etc. fron the Civil War. He was aide-de-camp for much of the time he was at Cumberland Gap. I cannot find his history before the war, and little afterwards.

Company H
Winthrop H Simms - Private
Winthrop H Simms is my GGGreat-Grandfather. He was a Brickmason by trade and he and his sons operated out of Evansville, Indiana and Louisville, Kentucky. In 2022 I discovered in my mother's possession, correspondence between Winthrop and the US War Department as he was filing for his pension. In that paperwork was an original discharge 1865 certificate from the Union Army, whilst his command was occupying Knoxville, Tennessee.

John Fey - Private
John Fey was from Louisville, KY, he enrolled in the army as a private on August 21, 1862, and mustered out at Knoxville, June 24, 1865. Great Grandfather Fey was also a member of the Louisville GAR, he serviced as Aid de Camp at the Philadelphia encampment in 1899, I have the originally framed certificate he received. I also have a replica he carried in his wallet, of the Seige of Vicksburg wallpaper newpaper, which he must have gotten at one of the annual GAR encampments, perhaps the Louisville one in 1896. Born in 1844, he died in 1916.
