Enlisted in Co. K 9th. Cavalry Regiment Iowa, on 30 October 1863
Mustered out 03, February 1866 in Little Rock AR.

He enlisted on January 4, 1862, and served as a Private in Company H 14th Iowa Volunteers. He was in the Battles of Fort Henry, Fort Donelson, and the Battle of Shiloh. He then became ill and was discharged on July 20, 1862, in Corinth, Mississippi.
