Company C
John Stewart
- Sergeant
Great, Great Grandpa John Stewart was 40 years old when the Union Called for his service. He was not married and had no children. His service was one of great luck, he was sick in the Hospital in Nashvile when the regiment was captured at Thompson Station and sent to Libby Prision. After recovering and rejoining the regiment the unfortionate souls who where captured where exchanged. From then one until the outskirts of Atlanta the 85th was in the rear with the gear, then at the Battle of Peach Tree Creek they got the chance, it was here where John Stewart was given the honor of being the 'Flag Bearer' and was wounded.
