George C. Dorland was my great grandfather and was only 17 when he enlisted. He fought in a lot of major battles: Shiloh, Liberty Gap, Stone River, Chickamauga, Lookout Mountain, siege of Corinth. I have inherited his old chest which has his name and rank on the side of it. He was killed on January 20, 1893 in a train accident.

Simeon Lightfoot - Private |
Changed last name after the war to Simeon Wilson. Simeon was my Great Grandfather. SIMEON LIGHTFOOT enlisted in the 29th Indiana Infantry on August 27, 1861, at LaPorte, Indiana. Research of muster rolls indicates that SIMEON probably saw action at Shiloh and Stone's River. He was captured after the battle of Stone’s River and apparently did not return to duty until October or November 1863. His official records at the National Archives indicate that he was captured while on a hospital boat on the Cumberland River on January 12, 1863. He was discharged September 26, 1864, at Chattanooga, TN. After the war, SIMEON settled in Berrien County, Michigan and later Plymouth, IN. Simeon died on February 9, 1932, at the age of 89.
