Original enlistment was in Co.E, 33rd Indiana Volunteers, but was discharged for illness. Then enlisted in 3 month Regiment, 55th Indiana, and finally in the 20th Light Battery. His diary from his time with the 20th is in the archives at DePauw University and is available for viewing. Buried in National Cemetery in Arkansas.
