b:6-1-1827 Pickaway county, Ohio d:4-1-1902 Newton, Kansas buried in Greenwood cemetery, Newton.He enlisted in the Union army as a sergeant in Company B. of the 31st Indiana volunteer Infantry September 5, 1861, and was discharged September 29, 1862, on the account of a gunshot wound in the right forearm received in the battle of Fort Donelson. Not sure when he was promoted to captain but is listed as a captain on his government marker.

The record also showed him present for duty January to June 1862. From June 10, 1862 to February 1863, he was listed as absent sick. He was discharged due to disability February 4, 1863.

.....April 6, 1862, Battle of Pittsboro (Shilo) , he received a flesh wound in the left hip.
.....December 15, 1864, Battle of Nashville, a mini ball penetrated his wrist.
.....October 1, 1864, promoted to Corporal
.....Discharged December 8, 1865, at Victoria, Texas

Azza H. Walker - Corporal
Azza was my great-great uncle. He received a wound at the battle of Kennesaw Mountain in Georgiain June of 1864. He was transported back to Nashville, Tennessee and died in July of 1964 at Cumberland Hospital. His remains were brought back to Terre Haute, Indiana and he was buried in the Walker Family Cemetery in Southern Parke County, Indiana.
