Myron H Hare - 1st Sergeant
'To all whom it may concern - know ye, that Myron H. Hare, Enlisted from La Salle Co. Ills. Sept. 11, 1861 and was mustered into the U. S. service at Ottawa, Ills. Sept. 26, 1861 as a private of Co. B 4th Regt. Illinois Volunteer Cavalry under Capt. G. J. Shepardson and Col. T. Lyle Dickey to serve three years or during the war. The Regt. was assigned to Lauman's Brig. Washburne Div., Army of Tenn. and he participated in the following engagements: Fort Henry, Tenn. Feb. 6, 1862, Fort Donelson, Feb. 13-16, 64 ['62], Shiloh, April 6-7, '62, where he was injured, being thrown from his horse, causing the dislocation and breaking of his right shoulder. Was confined in hospital at Shiloh and appointed General Superintendent of regimental hospital at that place in March and April 1862. Rejoined Regt. and took part at Siege of Corinth, Miss. April 30, to May 30, '62, Holly Springs, Nov. 28, '62, Coffeeville, Dec. 5, '62, Siege of Vicksburg, May 18 to July 4, '63, Black River, July 5, '63, Siege of Jackson, July 9-16, '63, and numerous skirmishes. Was honorably discharged Dec. 29, '63 at Natchez, Miss. on account of re-enlistment on Dec. 27, '63 as Veteran and Sergt. of Co. B. Vet. Battalion 4th Ills. Vol. Cavalry under Capt. H. H. Merriman and Col. M. R. M. Wallace to serve 3 years or during the war. Promoted to Corporal, then to 1st Duty Sergt. of Co. B. 4th Cavalry. Served with battalion until transferred to Co. B. 12th Ills. Cavalry, June 1865. He was finally honorably discharged, May 29, 1866 at Houston Tex. from the 12th Ills. Vol. Cavalry.'
