25th Georgia Infantry
Company Unknown
George Archibald JacksonRank Unknown
I accessed my great grandfather's unit, the 25th Regiment of Georgia volunteer infantry, CSA, also known as the Ogeechee Rifles. Could not get past first page of unit members, so am wondering if you have him. He entered as 3rd Lt. and exited as Captain in Company K.

Thanks.

PS I have lots of his personal info, but would like a summary of the unit's activities during the Civil War.

“Irwin Invincibles”, “Liberty Volunteers” or “Henry Light Infantry”
A voluntary independent company of infantry was organized by John L. Irwin (Captain) in August of 1861. They assembled at Franklin Alabama on or about the 8th of August, and set forth to join their kinsmen and friends at the front.
The name “Irwin Invincibles” come from the Company’s first Captain and 1st Lt., R. W. Irwin. The Captain died of Typhoid fever and pneumonia at Maddon Bluff, Virginia in 1861, but R. W. Irwin fought throughout the war and later lived and died in Fort Gaines, Georgia.
This company organized in Henry County, Alabama joined the 25th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry and became Company E. The Roster of these men, as recorded in Georgia Archives, is as follows:

Born in Bulloch Co, GA on March 5th, 1827. Enlisted October 25th, 1862 at Camp Young in Savannah, GA. Fought in the Siege of Vicksburg and Battle of Chickamauga. He was wounded in the left hand at the Battle of Chickamauga and thereafter could not perform regular duty. He was then sent to serve at a hospital in Macon, GA to help nurse the sick until the surrender. In 1908, he was living near Blocher, GA (Liberty Co.), which was right on the Liberty/Tattnall Co line. In that year, at age 81, he applied for his pension. Although he was poor and completely disabled, he was denied because he owned the little piece of land he lived on. He died the following year. He willed this piece of land to his grandson James 'Jessie' Groover (Charles Allen Groover's son) on the condition he take care of JW and his wife in their old age. In the GA court case Wilkes v. Groover, his daughter (Catherine America Groover Wilkes) sued to have the land taken away, claiming he did not take care of them as required.

I wrote earlier, but now have found that you do have George Archibald Jackson, but do not have his rank and company. Please
add that he exited the 25th Georgia Infantry Regiment as Captain of Company K.
He entered service as third Lt., being promoted to 2nd and then 1st Lt. and finally, captain. I have documentation. He was wounded severely near Orangeburg SC on 11Fed1865 and was hospiralized at USC in Columbia until the end of the war.
