Born in Ireland approx 1830, immigrated to the United States 1840,ending in Georgia, Willacoochee township, Coffee County. Generally, farmers who provided needed food for the CSA were exempt form conscription, as were the too old and infirmed.State Guards were expected to patrol for union stragglers and Conf deserters. He served in Groover's Co., 11 Georgia Cavalry (State Guards). Capt. Wiley W. Groover's Company (Co. D) was from Brook's County, and was under 'MacIntyre's Battalion. A muster roll from Quitman, shows Benjamin F. Whipple mustered in on 4 Aug 1863 for a period of six months. His horse was valued at $1,000 and equipment at $50.00.

Matthew Moore - Private
Private Matthew Moore (b 1818) was my GG Grandfather. Prior to the War Between the States, Matthew participated in the first and second Seminole Wars. On September 8, 1863, at age 45, he was mustered into the 11th Georgia State Guard Cavalry Regiment as part of GG Granduncle Captain James Watson Staten's Company (Company E, Echols Cavalry), and served for a six month period until he was mustered out in 1864. The regiment was called into service to serve in the southwestern portion of the state. The men were required to provide their own horse, weapon, and other equipment.

John T. Allen was sent home at the close of the War due to illness. He had
seen service with Johnson's 11th Cavalry State Guards from Clinch County,
GA. John T. Allen's highest rank was that of 2nd Lieutenant. He served from
the 1052nd District, Clinch County, receiving his commission as 2nd Lt. on
28 June 1862. When the State Militia was called out to defend GA against
invasion in 1864, 2nd Lt. John T. Allen served in the Atlanta Campaign.Co. G (Clinch Cavaliers) - Aug. 12, 1863, stationed at Homersville, Ga.
