Confederate States Army enlistee, WILEY T. WILLIS joined ADAMS ARKANSAS INFANTRY on June 30, 1861. He was one of about 75 men in his regiment who rallied around the colors and fought at the BATTLE OF PRAIRIE GROVE after the rest either deserted or surrendered.
After the BATTLE OF PRAIRIE GROVE, he reenlisted in the THIRD ARKANSAS CAVALRY and reported sick from July 1862-April 1863.
In 1863 he transferred to the 27th ARKANSAS INFANTRY and fought in the Battle of Little Rock, Battle of Pleasant Hill and Battle of Jenkins Ferry.
His regiment surrendered on May 26, 1865.

My great grandfather enlisted as a 21 year old on May 2, 1861. He was wounded at Shiloh, April 1862, promoted to capt, Jul 25, 1862. He was severely wounded in the leg at Murfreesboro, TN. He lived raising cotton, etc. until 1927 or 1928. I''d love to hear from anyone who knows more about him or his family.

Samuel was 19 years old. He enlisted at Monticello Ark on 8 May 1861 in [Fagan's]1st Regt. Ark Inf. also known as Jackson's,& Colquitt's. He mustered in at Lynchburg Va. on 19 May 1861. October 1861 he was wounded at Chickamaga [shot in the knee ] He was detailed to Capt. Charles W. Peden's Provost Marshall as a train guard at Atlanta Ga. His wife applied for a pension. Researchers, be aware that their is another S. B Gibson [ older man ] in the files of this unit.

Married Cornelia Manning of Bowling Green Kentucky. Died in 1921 and is buried in the churchyard of the 1892 Hall's Chapel Church on Barren River Rd., Bowling Green, KY.
