Conrad Hofacker - Private |
My great-great-grandfather was a German immigrant cabinet maker in New Haven, with 3 children, who enlisted at age 30. He fought with Zook''s Brigade at Fredericksburg and was pinned down in front of the stonewall/sunken road at the base of Mayre''s Heights from about noon Day One until about 3 a.m. Day Two. He later fought at Chancellorsville and was captured by Jackson''s ''Foot Cavalry'' near the Chancellorsville House. He was marched through Richmond and spent time at Libby Prison and at another prison on some island on a river. He was later released in a prisoner exchange.
